The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's 2015 "Top Safety Pick" awards have been given out and we’re proud to announce that Toyota made out like a bandit. This year, the automaker won more awards than any other brand honored by IIHS. It picked up seven for the Toyota nameplate, three for Lexus and two for Scion, collecting a total of 12 awards.
Out of all the cars praised for their safety advantages, five Toyota models earned Top Safety Pick+ awards: the Toyota Prius, Toyota Prius v, Toyota Camry, Toyota Highlander and Toyota Sienna (the only van in the category). The Prius v, which performed well in the small overlap test, was specifically honored for its improvements. Additionally, the Toyota Avalon and Toyota RAV4 were included in the standard Top Safety Pick category and praised for their safety equipment.
Humbled by Toyota’s accolades, Dino Triantafyllos, Toyota's North American Chief Quality Officer, said the company's pleased with the recognition it’s received by the IIHS. Toyota always makes safety a top priority when developing its lineup of cars, trucks and SUVs, and they remain one of the most trusted automakers in the car industry today.
