Just a mere month ago, the Arlington community suffered the loss of one of our own, Martin High School senior Carl Wilson, who was tragically gunned down outside of a car wash near the 6600 block of Treepoint Drive in Kennedale. The news left everyone shocked and many wondering why this well-liked, hard-working young man would be the target for such a heinous crime. With the incident still fresh in everyone's mind, the town continues to grieve and search for answers that can bring closure to Wilson's family.
As a standout football player at Martin High School, Carl was highly praised by many of his peers. He was known to always have a smile on his face and regularly spoke about his young son, who he would often take to football practice with him. At 18 years old, Carl still had his entire life ahead of him and had already made plans to attend a junior college, where he would continue his football career. He had overcome many hardships in his life, maintained a great attitude and was a good father, who strived to be a positive influence for his son. Both teachers and students have fond memories of Carl encouraging others and they are deeply saddened by his passing.
At this time, it is more important than ever for us to come together as a community and help each other overcome this tragedy. If you'd like to help out the family of Carl Wilson, you can also make a donation to the Carl Wilson Jr. Memorial Fund, benefiting his young son's future.
As huge supporters of the community, all three Vandergriff stores decided to match donations made to Wilson's family, which has brought the total to $14,000. We hope these funds are able to help his family as well as his son during this time.
