Specs at a Glance

With a complete design change, the 2020 Toyota Highlander gives consumers much to look forward to in 2020. The latest Highlander gets a bold new exterior look. Inside, it has an updated cabin and more standard features. The latest Toyota Highlander is offered in a gasoline and a hybrid edition. There are five trims in the 2020 Highlander. Each comes with a set of standard amenities, but you can also add on more features and packages.

The 2020 Highlander family starts with the L, which is the base trim. The L has many standard features, especially for an entry-level trim. New technology and new interior designs are highlights of the L this year. In total, the gasoline version of the 2020 Highlander has five trim levels. The mid-range edition is the XLE. This trim gets more standard safety and technology features. It also adds on more exterior amenities, including a sunroof, that gives it a sportier appearance and improves its functionality. All trims of the 2020 Toyota Highlander get the same engine, but you have the option of getting a seating configuration for seven or eight depending on the trim. A seven-seat configuration is available with the XLE.

Performance

All trims of the gasoline Toyota Highlander share the same engine in 2020. This engine is a V6 with a capacity of 3.5L. The engine produces up to 295 HP, and it maxes out at 263 LB-FT of torque. This engine was previously available on select trims, but it comes standard across the board for 2020. The V6 engine replaces the V4 that powered the base trim level in the past. The standard drivetrain in the 2020 Highlander is a front-wheel drive, while you can choose the all-wheel-drive for additional traction and control.

Appearance

When it comes to appearances, both the L and the XLE stand out with distinctive features and styling. From the front, the L stands out for its bold, visible LED headlights. A total of eight paint colors are available to give your 2020 Toyota Highlander a custom look, although the precise color options may change by trim. The L and XLE both have 18-inch wheels, but their wheels have slightly different finishes. On the side, the L stands out with color-keyed side mirrors with integrated turn signals. Its mirrors are also heated. The XLE gets a power-operated liftgate. A small but noticeable difference in its side mirrors is the fact that they include a blind-spot warning as well. The XLE gets a slightly different look all-around with the addition of roof rails on the top. LED reflector lights are standard on both trims, while the XLE gets LED fog lights.

Features

The L comes standard with a six-speaker sound system and an eight-inch infotainment display screen equipped with all the latest technologies, including Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and Apple CarPlay. The XLE upgrades to a premium sound system with HD radio and satellite radio. An eight-occupant seating configuration is standard on the base trim, while the others have seating for seven.
