What's New For the 2021 Toyota RAV4?

One of the most significant changes for the RAV4 in 2021 is the addition of more options. Now you can choose from more trim levels if you choose the RAV4 Hybrid. An entirely new variant of the RAV4, called the RAV4 Prime, joins the lineup this year. With electric power only, the Prime reaches more than 40 miles of gasoline-free range. The regular RAV4 carries over mostly the same from 2020. Its main highlights are a quiet cabin and comfortable ride. It also has ample cargo space. The Hybrid adds a new trim called the XLE Premium, which provides buyers with a mid-level trim that offers mid-range pricing and amenities.

2021 Toyota RAV4 Is Impressive No Matter Which Model or Trim You Choose

The base trim of the RAV4 is the LE in both the gasoline-based and hybrid RAV4 models and the SE in the Prime. The LE starts with a relatively full-featured package that includes cloth upholstery, a six-speaker sound system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, LED headlights, and a seven-inch display. The SE has an eight-inch display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and heated seats.

The second trim on the RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid adds dual-zone climate control and more USB ports. The XLE Premium on the RAV4 and the RAV4 Hybrid gets larger 18-inch wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a sunroof. It also has a higher suspension for more off-road performance.

The XSE trim is the sportiest trim for the RAV4 Hybrid and comes with black-painted 18-inch wheels, two-tone paint with black trim, and a partial digital instrument cluster. The XSE on the RAV4 Prime is the top trim and adds a two-tone roof, a nine-inch display, wireless charging, and heated seats. On the RAV4, the Adventure trim doesn't include the power liftgate and sunroof but adds fender flares, selectable terrain drive modes, and hill descent control. You get an off-road-tuned suspension and unique black interior trim and trim elements on the TRD Off-Road trim. The Limited gets 18-inch chrome wheels on the Hybrid, chrome exterior trim on the RAV4, an 11-speaker JBL audio system, and navigation on both models.

What's Under the Hood of the RAV4?

Power ranges from just over 200 HP with the RAV4 to slightly more than 300 HP with the RAV4 Prime. The base RAV4 is powered exclusively by a four-cylinder gasoline engine. The RAV4 Hybrid adds slightly more power with a single electric motor to reach 219 HP. The RAV4 Prime tops the lineup with two more electric motors. Prime's power output is 302 HP. All models have an automatic transmission.

Technologies to Keep You Safe

The RAV4 comes with Toyota's Safety Sense 2.0 package with a lane-keep system, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and forward collision avoidance. Blind-spot monitoring and a panoramic camera are added to the top trims.
