What's New For the 2021 Toyota Tacoma?

For the 2021 model year, Toyota adds options packages to the Tacoma lineup: the Trail and Nightshade special edition packages. Safety and technology features, like Toyota Safety Sense P, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa, are standard on all Tacoma models.

Which Features Are Available for 2021?

Toyota Tacoma has six trims: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro, and a choice of Access Cab and Double Cab configurations. The base SR trim includes many features, such as heated outside mirrors, a composite bed, 16-inch wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Alexa, and Android Auto.

The SR5 trim has an 8-inch touchscreen, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a locking/unlocking vehicle remote. Available options packages include Dynamic navigation (rear parking sensors, a navigation system, only with the V6), Technology (blind-spot monitoring with a rear-traffic alert, only V6), and Trail Special Edition packages (unique seating trim, 120-volt bed outlet, all-terrain tires, only on the Double Cab with V6).

The next trim up, TRD Sport, offers many features for a mid-range model, including heated mirrors, a sport-tuned suspension, body-colored rear bumper and fender flares, and a wireless charging pad. The available options packages include Premium Audio and Dynamic Navigation (includes JBL premium audio system, navigation system), Technology (rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert), Premium Sport (heated front seats, sunroof, and leather upholstery), and Advanced Technology (360-degree camera system) packages.

The TRD Off-Road trim gets textured black fender flares, Bilstein shocks, and an electronic locking rear differential. The options packages for the TRD Off-Road is the same as those for the TRD Sport. The Limited trim includes leather upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a silver grille, a navigation system, and a premium JBL audio system. You can get the Nightshade Special Edition package on the Limited (includes black exterior styling elements and wheels).

The top-of-the-line TRD Pro adds to what's on the TRD Off-Road, includes the multi-terrain monitor, an off-road camera system, LED headlights, sunroof, black grille, leather upholstery, and 16-inch black-painted TRD badged wheels with all-terrain tires.

Featuring Great Performance

The 2021 Tacoma 2.7 L I-4 engine produces up to 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. Running on the Atkinson cycle, the 3.5 L V6 engine generates a maximum of 278 hp and 265 lb-ft. This naturally aspirated six-cylinder powertrain has a peak towing capacity of 6,400 pounds. Most trims are driven by a six-speed automatic transmission, known as the ECT-i system. The base trim comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and the Clutch Start/Cancel switch. A rear-wheel drive system with the Automatic Limited-Slip Differential helps this Toyota pickup truck navigate rugged terrains. The ALSD is also compatible with the 4WDemand 4WD system.

Safety Features in the Forefront for 2021
