It's no secret that Toyota is a leader in the U.S. market when it comes to hybrid vehicles. With the launch of the Prius in 1997, they were one of the first automakers to introduce hybrid technology to the mainstream. It's now been 18 years since the introduction of the Prius and Toyota is still going strong in the hybrid segment. New data released by the manufacturer even suggests Toyota's eco-friendly efforts carried out by its lineup of hybrids are drastically helping to preserve our environment.

Toyota's hybrid technology has come a long way from its early beginning. Back in 1995, the company couldn't even get the Prius prototype to drive for 49 days and now today it's one of the best-selling hybrid cars in America. In recent year, Toyota has also added a wide array of new hybrid models to their lineup and have sold over 8 million units worldwide.

If that's not impressive enough, Toyota recently released new data that proves its hybrid models are greatly benefiting our environment. As of July 31, 2015, the company claims its roster of hybrids have saved 22 kiloliters of gasoline in comparison to gas-powered models and they have resulted in 58 million fewer tons of carbon dioxide emissions than would have been emitted if they were gas-powered models. These incredible figures support the notion that hybrid vehicles are helping to keep the earth clean.

As a brand committed to bettering the environment, Toyota has plans to release more hybrids throughout the world, including the Corolla Hybrid and RAV4 Hybrid. The addition of each new model will expand Toyota's green initiatives and help preserve the world.
