As the automotive business continues to progress, more and more advanced technology options are beginning to find their way onto today's cars. In the past few years, carmakers have been focused on developing in-car systems capable of providing seamless smartphone integration, but according to recent studies buyers are more interested in owning vehicles with innovative safety technology. Toyota, one of the most recognizable brands in the industry, took this demand into consideration when developing the fourth-generation 2016 Toyota Prius and decided to offer a brand-new security suite, Toyota Safety Sense, on the incoming model to meet the needs of modern drivers.

Made up of five different safety systems, Toyota Safety Sense works diligently to keep drivers of the 2016 Toyota Prius secure on the road. Learn about each system below and be sure to be on the lookout for the arrival of the 2016 Prius at Vandergriff Toyota.

Pre-Collision System

One of the more prominent features apart of Toyota Safety Sense is its pre-collision system. Using a single-lens camera and laser radar, the system is able to predict a potential collision ahead, and warn the driver by using audio and visual signals. If the driver does not respond to the warnings, the car's automatic braking feature will kick in to prevent an accident.

Lane Departure Alert

Ideal for beginner drivers, lane departure alert works by using a single-lens camera to detect when the car begins to cross over white or yellow lines without the prior use of turn signals. To keep drivers safely in their lane, the system activates audio and visual alerts to notify drivers of the lane switch.

Automatic High Beams

Drivers struggling with night visibility will greatly benefit from Toyota Safety Sense’s automatic high beams. Once again using a single lens camera, the automatic lights adjust between low and high beams depending on the brightness of headlights/taillights on surrounding cars.

Pre-Collison System with Pedestrian Detection

With help from a single-lens camera and millimeter-wave radar, Toyota Safety Sense's pre-collision system can detect both cars and pedestrians. The car's headlamps also come outfitted with infrared-ray projector, which has the ability to successfully identify pedestrians at night.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Perfect for cross-country trips, dynamic radar cruise control adjusts speed to keep the car a safe distance from the vehicle in front of it. It's also able to detect a lane change of the preceding vehicle and will automatically decelerate the Prius in order to create room for the task at hand.
