Get Ready for Toyota's New GR Cup Series

We have stellar news to share with car culture enthusiasts today. If you drive a Toyota GR86, you will be especially interested in this information.

Recently, a Toyota subsidiary called Toyota Gazoo Racing North America launched a new racing series. Branded the GR Cup, this unique series will feature identically modified Toyota GR86 sports coupes. Drivers and race fans should expect a schedule of 14 races at seven tracks for the inaugural season in 2023. According to a recent release from the automaker, the GR Cup will give aspiring race teams an affordable entry point to the world of competitive racing.

Further, the GR Cup's 2023 slate will be sanctioned by SRO America, a sanctioning entity that has officiated GT races for over 30 years. Toyota Gazoo Racing North America plans to announce the race schedule and the modified GR86's pricing later this summer.

Toyota Racing Development will modify the cars for the GR Cup at its new shop in Mooresville, North Carolina. Each stock GR86 will receive a package of parts and components that boost its performance and enhance its safety. Highlights include racing-style brakes, a sequential transmission, a custom MacPherson strut, and a roll cage.

Each stop on the GR Cup schedule will feature full-fledged events. The tour's founding partners will offer hospitality areas. Mobil 1, Continental, Yahoo, Crescent Tools, JBL, Racing Spirit, OMP, Gearwrench, and Stratasys are the GR Cup's founding partners. Expect an excellent atmosphere for camaraderie with other track car fanatics.

This new racing series offers Toyota a chance to spread enthusiasm for its growing GR imprint. It will also give the company's engineers advanced data. That data will help the automaker develop new performance models.
