Image: Toyota Invests in EV Charging Network IONNA to Increase Charging Access for Customers

This summer, Toyota announced its investment in the EV charging network IONNA, aiming to create a powerful charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles across North America. Alongside six other automakers, Toyota is backing IONNA to improve access to charging stations for EV owners.

IONNA's goal is to install at least 30,000 charging ports across North America by 2030. These stations will be equipped with both NACS and CCS connectors, ensuring compatibility with all battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The first round of DC fast-charging stations will roll out this year, with more installations planned nationwide.

This initiative underscores Toyota's dedication to BEVs. The company currently offers two BEV models: the Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ. Additionally, Toyota is preparing to introduce two new three-row BEV SUVs and plans to expand its lineup to 30 BEV models across its Toyota and Lexus brands by 2030.

Toyota joins a coalition of major automakers—including BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis—in supporting IONNA. These collective efforts aim to enhance EV charging infrastructure, facilitating greater adoption of electric vehicles.
