Ā Ā Toyota firmly believes that solar energy will shape our collective future. Choosing a cleaner alternative to the fossil fuels that supplied the last century is vital for preserving the environment. To highlight this state-of-the-art and sustainable power source, Toyota has set up the Vivid Solar Sculptural Display, currently welcoming guests at its Research & Development plant in Michigan.
Vivid Solar Sculptural Display Helps Harvest Energy
Formed through a joint venture between Toyotaās Advanced Product Planning Office (APPO) and the Toyota Research Institute of North America (TRINA), this brilliant installation integrates solar mechanics with exceptional color selections. Rather than just offering an attractive appearance, the project actively collects power. Establishing unique renewable power avenues is critical to supporting our modern lifestyle as common oil and coal options decrease.
Assembled at a a 1/6th layout scale, this carbon-neutral, self-sustaining model incorporates 11 triangular towers. By utilizing customized lenticular lenses, the creation team managed to conceal the solar cells while protecting their generation capabilities. Put simply, the monument works as an exceptional piece of art and a practical ecological breakthrough that produces clean electricity.
The background of this unique framework dates back quite a few years. While the request for the project came forward in 2020, its primary technology was established over ten years ago. Co-project leader Songtao Wu, a senior principal scientist in the Materials Research Department, noted that TMC first explored nanotechnology-based dynamic color pigments 12 years ago, intending to eventually apply them to solar power systems.
Even though it was funded by TMC, APPO championed the initiative across the North American sector, directing budgets and pushing for commercial adaptation. Today, this Vivid color-panel approach can be added to standard solar fields while maintaining more than 90% of the hardware's factory performance.
Co-project leader Brian Woods is equally thrilled to witness the Vivid Solar technology move into production. "When you evaluate the potential for branding and display layouts, the corporate return on investment is massive," he highlights, noting that this setup marries an eco-conscious power setup with endless marketing avenues.
